Fukui Prefecture, a network partner of UPDATE EARTH, is hosting the "Fukui Prefecture Waku Waku Challenge Plan Contest." The contest aims to address regional challenges and promote the revitalization of Fukui by supporting activities that fulfill the dreams of citizens and boost the local community. The winning plans, selected through a screening process, receive financial support of up to 3 million yen.

In 2024, 17 plans were chosen out of 45 applicants through video presentations and public pitching sessions. Plans were selected in categories for 200,000, 500,000, and 1 million yen awards, while the 3 million yen category was awarded to the "Fukui Mountain Trail Energetic Project" by the general incorporated association Koshi-no-Kuni Satoyama Regeneration Association. This project aims to turn abandoned farmland into a "Skill Up Park" for mountain biking practice. Participants will develop basic mountain biking skills, enabling them to safely navigate trail courses and improve their overall cycling safety techniques.

Fukui Prefecture ranks high in happiness surveys by prefecture and is expected to continue unveiling unique plans that lead to even greater community well-being.
