UPDATE EARTH’s partner, the Asahikawa Industry Creation Plaza Foundation, is hosting the 2024 Northern Hokkaido Business Plan Contest. This contest aims to support individuals with innovative business plans and ambitious expansion goals. The deadline for submissions is December 6, with the final review and awards ceremony scheduled for February 22, 2025.
The contest is organized by the Northern Hokkaido Business Plan Contest Organizing Committee, which includes municipalities from the northern Hokkaido region: Asahikawa City, Wakkanai City, Nayoro City, Shibetsu City, Rumoi City, Furano City, Higashikagura Town, Higashikawa Town, and Takasu Town. Business plans focused on these six cities and three towns, including innovative and feasible products or services, are eligible for submission.
This year marks the 14th edition of the Grand Prix. Previous winners have included unique local business ideas such as "protecting nature through hunting and turning venison into pet food," "craft gin made from Hokkaido-grown grains, Japan's first of its kind," and "sustainable value-added processing and sales of Hokkaido-grown rosemary products."
Hokkaido offers a vast field for experimentation, making it an ideal environment for testing new ideas. We hope that exciting new businesses will emerge not only from the northern region but also on a global scale.
