Applications or recommendations will be accepted from individuals or organizations(Note 1)(Note 2) who have a desire to UPDATE the Earth on behalf of Japan.
(Note 1) Individuals or organizations that aim to commercialize the results of their research and development, and who reside or plan to reside in Japan by the time of the selection decision. Foreign nationals must meet the requirements for residence and employment in Japan.
(Note 2) Small and medium-sized enterprises, etc., as defined in Article 2, Paragraph 14 of the Law Concerning the Invigoration of Science and Technology and Innovation Creation (Law No. 63 of 2008), that are registered in Japan, have their main base of technological development and decision-making for their business activities in Japan, and have been established within 15 years in principle. The nominee must be a small or medium-sized enterprise, etc., registered in Japan.

※The UPDATE EARTH Competition Secretariat, the secretariat of this call, will contact the nominees during the selection process.

Research and Development Funds
Support is provided for research and development conducted by individuals, organizations, or startups aiming to establish or expand their businesses, commercialize their businesses, or refine their business plans.
  • Development support grant: 5-30 million yen (total amount: 300 million yen)
  • Support period: 1 year
    • Negotiating rights for preferential investment
  • Negotiation rights with more than 50 membership companies (large companies, VC, etc.) for equity subscription

  • Expert advice on start-up, development, and commercialization

    Please fill out the form below to apply and submit your proposal materials.

    Proposals should be approximately 15 pages in length, including the following information. There is no specified format, so please feel free to create your own. In the case of a recommended application, include the contact information of the person to be recommended.

    About selection
     
  • After the Management Office confirms the application requirements and submitted materials, an evaluator appointed by the Management Office will conduct document screening and select candidates for interview.
  • Those who pass the document screening will be contacted by the Management Office to arrange the interview selection.
  • The results of the interview selection will be posted on the website and those who pass the interview selection will be contacted individually.
  • Applicants who do not pass the interview selection process will not be contacted. Information related to the selection process will not be disclosed under any circumstances.
